Celebrating Reno's Infinite Potential For Absurdity

On this, Thanksgiving weekend, I'd like to carry on the traditional gesture of offering up words of thanks to my God who's permeated the fabric of my life and made me into me.

My thanks today goes out to a word–yes–this word I've recently declared my God. I trust this word above all others because I believe it is one word that stands outside of reason. It cannot, in this world, be taken away OR produced at will–by anyone; in fact, my new faith tells me that this word IS the world and it is everything we know. I'm thankful to this semantic God named Serendipity. This is the God of suffering and delight, direction and non-direction, blinding light and dumb luck.

I agree with my friends who trust in fate and destiny and those who tell me that "there's a reason for everything; it all works out in the end." It's just semantics anyway so I offer back "...I believe that there's no reason for everything–it all works out in the end." So with fortitude, I rest my faith in Serendipity.

'Reason' is the point at which I diverge. Is the world ruled by 'reason'? Man may be ruled by reason, but if we look to a God, wouldn't this, by definition, be outside of man's domain? So the best I can hope for is luck–and that is my God.

So today, I thank you Serendipity for bringing me along this meandering path that I've had no control over. You've brought me to places that I would not have chosen to go. You've given me things that I would not have asked for, and you've humbled me. For these chances, for this perspective, on this auspicious day of thanks, I thank you Serendipity.

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
