Chad, No worries! Change is good anyway. It's time for something different. We all are grateful for all the work you've done.

An article about Double Negative, and it's pretty good.

http://www.portlandart.net/archives/2008/11/revisiting_mich.html

It brings up some interesting points about how land art can be always new to the viewer, in the way that painting is not and how we couldn't even make this kind of work today.

An interesting resource

The "Land Arts listserve" posts some interesting projects, events and articles, often about Nevada. There's some good lurking to be had there.

Art + Environment Conference at the NMA

The Nevada Museum of Art hosted the Art + Environment Conference October 2 - 4. Bill Fox moderated, speakers included Vito Acconci, Matt Coolidge, Fritz Haeg, Chris Drury, Katie Holten, Will Bruder, Crimson Rose and many, many more. It was an intelligent and jam-packed 3 days.

Here is a review. Look soon, it's only available for 5 days.

Who the hell are the LA Mudpeople?

For clues look here:

It's good to be mobile. I could use a side trip right about now but I don't think it's in the offing. Enjoy.

Yes, indeed. The pile of debris just gets deeper. Soon, all I'll need is the ocean and palm trees. How is L.A. treating you?

never been to Rhyolite cemetery, no. I WILL now.. I haven't ever even looked for it there. There's more in Rhyolite than meets the eye. But ya know, I've finally decided that I LUV graveyards, I need a bumpersticker... "i heart graveyards", but they're so peaceful, except when I crawl thru with the stereo blasting "Hells Bells". I think the town of Goldfield heard my music bouncing off the rock wall behind graveyard.

Otherwise, so fuckin' peaceful. Truly, the last time I didn't wanna leave.... Rhyolite, I've got a trip there coming up soon I think.

Notes

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
