Celebrating Reno's Infinite Potential For Absurdity

NadaDada's next exhibition in Las Vegas' Barrick Museum, tentatively titled "YadaYada From NadaDada" isn't Sorg's baby anymore. It's all grow'ds up. No curator or board will decide the art shown this year. It's back to our roots of true blooded anarchy.

This year NadaDada's ragtag image gets let down, down with homelessness and actually back in tune with selflessness. A benefit exhibition in that museum's exhibition space, with as many as 200 works of art to be shown. Artists are being asked to create portraits of the homeless...more info to come.

The mission, this year, is to open the show up to NadaDada's lineage of being of the people, no curation of creations, but directly enacted displays of art in the name of art, but also, ultruism. Ultruism? Yes.

We aid the cause of homelessness through donations to two organizations helping the homeless of Reno and Las Vegas. There will be no curator. This year, as much art as we can collect will be shipped directly, by the artist, to Margarie Barrick Museum of Natural History And Culture.

We have partners in Las Vegas that also want to aid the cause and bring our two cities together, creatively.

We are a party loving group, yes, we may be into ourselves, yes, but we have something to say and it's about surviving on our own.

when do we need to be there to hang the show?

For this show, yes it must be new work. Specifically, a portrait of an actual homeless person. Not sure how loose the details of submission guidelines will be, still working on that, but this show has some missions in mind and one mission is to directly join people, get people to meet people. It challenges artists to come out and be normal humans again, so to speak.

At BleuLion, we went through the same thing years ago. Artists were asked to portray a stripper and sometimes that specific task was reduced, oh yeah, stripping in general, and this created much termoil about fairness. I think each peace will need to be a portrait of an actual person. This will not mean it must be realistic but I think the deciding factor will be that it needs to represent someone. Sculptures too, of course.

It's like at the Cortez, we meet with people who live there, there's a real joining of worlds at that point. This guy may have been in Korea and living from check to check, never giving a damm about anything called art. He likes boxing but can't afford HBO, so we've come to him, in his domain, and interesting things can happen.

And as far as hanging the show this year, as chief preparator, I'll be putting together a team of willing workers to install it. The work will be pretty uniform, so the installation will be straight forward. These ideas are coming together right now. I got a lot of input from Lady Di and this is a win-win-win situation, all the way around.

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
