Celebrating Reno's Infinite Potential For Absurdity

Trelaine

***Random Gathering at The Imperial*** This Thursday, Nov 13th, 7 P.M.

Consuelo is apparently Nada to be found. I missed the memo, so I don’t know what’s up. Personally, I am imagining her as a daring bush pilot (à la Beryl Markham), navigating an ancient Cessna into barely accessible jungles, picking up trinkets from the locals, and then zooming off to New York to sell them for a ridiculous profit.

In her absence, I have been given a new job: "Meeting Caller", although I swear the position had a much cooler title when Chad gave it to Consuelo, I just can’t remember what is was. I tried to come up with one myself – Announcer, Town Crier, Muadhdhin, etc., but nothing seemed to really fit. Interestingly, while perusing the thesaurus, I came across the phrase “Happy as a sandboy”. The definition was “Very happy”, but there was no indication of WTF a “sandboy” is. I see more Googling in my future.

But I digress, as usual.

It’s time again for a meeting at The Imperial! It’s on Thursday, November 13th, 7 P.M., at (duh!) The Imperial – 105 N. Arlington Ave., 324-6399.

You know the place, the brick building just a parking lot down from Second Street. The dimly-lit bistro with yummy sangria and weird food. You’d think they’d at least have a cheeseburger on the menu alongside the pesto and pine nuts quesadilla, nasturtiums and feta pizza, and the elliptic pasta salad with reindeer vinaigrette.

We all need to attend! Just because the name thingy has been dealt with, doesn’t mean we can rest on our laurels, drop the ball, (insert your favorite idiom here). It still needs to be decided how to allot the free rooms; to discuss possible collaborative advertising; what to do with the former swimming pool space at the Town House; how to entice the public from the El Cortez to the Town House, etc.

Perhaps Jeff will grace us with his presence as well, and explain the island in more detail - such as who will be Gilligan and Ginger (I see Tova as Maryanne). And we can’t forget the Howells! I plan on nominating Asa to be the professor, since I still have no clue what he was raving about when he announced that he had a transmitter.

Once again, that’s *THIS* Thursday, 7 P.M., at The Imperial! Bring your coconuts and your agendas!

ooohhh, eeeeee,,, ahhhhhhhh! I just remembered something, Chad's and my bad, Tre...

Isn't that the night of Candace's show? Perhaps we should gather randomly on Friday the 14th, so those of us who would like to go see Candace's gig can do so?

Damned senility!

Beautiful work in your new position as Announcer! :)

What does everyone think?

I don't care either way. Do you want me to change the time of the event?

Hmmm, guess not. Chad and I may get there a bit late after Candace's big acceptance speech in Carson.

The show goes on randomly... as planned.

I will get there about 7:30
I have something I am doing before that.
I look forward to seeing everybody.

Is Consuelo really incommunicado, or am I just feeding the rumor mill. What's her website, anyways.... I have to email her.... blah blah blah...

I just got off the phone with Bert Piccolini about the space to rent at the El Cortez, vacated by the flower shop.
What do you think about having a Nada Dada storefront? Anyway I will let you know the costs etc,,, on Thursday. He sure does like our group. Maybe we can find a sugar daddy to help us with rent. The space is 1000 square feet, but it is a mess. It needs work.

Amy! AAAAMMMYYYY!!!!

Sigh. It would be so cool if we could come up with a way to make money from it. I desperately need a job with health insurance.

Well since none of you guys came to support me anyway... I guess that's that.

ewww, is there a whiner in the house?

Candace deary, I'm sorry I didn't make it down.

I lost my keys and my cel phone bein' a drunken idiot and one of the Motelistas is in jail–if these are any consolation.

And when is NAC gonna move their office to Reno?

Candace,I'm confused, there is no excuse for us "folks" rude behavior, and ignorance of the law is no excuse ,those among us who are without guilt shall cast the first stone and supporting you is not the issue here,as thoughtfulness makes up in height, what it lacks in length, artists are inexterminable-like flies and bedbugs, there are will always be some that survive in cracks and crevices, nothing is more admirable in our self promotion of our Art,than a short memory,we'll
never achieve any success by being conformists, risk it for you...my apologies, for what ever it is we did ..............cioa bella Woody

Oh NO! I was busy giving birth to an endangered species of porpoise. That's my excuse. I'll see you on Wednesday though!

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
