Celebrating Reno's Infinite Potential For Absurdity

OK, I'm adding a discussion regarding traditional press shtuff. Which does beg the question: Do Dadan WANT traditional press? Is there a need/desire for it? I mean, I'm new to the NadaDadaYada movement, but I am curious- isn't part of the dada-data-quasi-anarchist to eschew traditional press releases and whatnot?

If the group decides to go in the traditional press manner, we should have a press release along with images done and ready in the next month. Lots o' shiny mags have a 4 months and greater deadline and it would behoove us to have something ready.
Some options are: Juxtapoz magazine, Flash Art, and Reno Mag.

Another question is: how much does the GROUP want to promote and how much does each individual artist want to promote? For instance, we might want to avoid redundancy- if the group sends a press release to Juxtapoz, should artists then send out individual press releases to the same magazine? Or is it no big deal?

Anyway, just questions....

Naomi, we want it, we want it–of course!
Now I've got Jux, been sending stuff to 'em.. for Vegas show... (which you can see here in another post) haven't done a Press Release for the Reno event yet. Reno Mag is high on my list of course. I've got a list of media email addys, the local number of contacts I have is about 50–that's in Reno. Also a couple in Vegas quite a few.
Ann Tracy is on it to, she's in Sac. but does PR for a living. How do we do this, we should divvy it up somehow... Nam, do you already have a list then or not?
I've not collected many national contacts. There's a lady freelances for ArtinAmerica, down in Vegas. I've traded emails with her. Really wanna be in it for the Vegas show, but we'll see. So, yeah, NATIONAL CONTACTS would be something others could focus on–that'd be great.
Last year, Molezzo got POSTCARDS out to a nice list of galleries and museums across country and SK keeps TALKING about the press lists he's got... haven't actually seen any action from him in that vein.
Please keep talking about it... we need to get these individuals to jump in. AND NO, there's no 'we're against traditional press or whatever' thing.

I do NOT have a list of contacts, was merely thinking of glossies that might be interested. Most of my contacts (shaky at that) are local.
Chad, it sounds like you've got much of it covered!
I will, however, keep trying to think and pipe up with ideas.
It wouldn't be hard to compile a list of possible venues, but I don't have personal relationships with national magazines or outlets.

ideas are great, but yeah, we need action more. If you wanna help, compile a nat'l media list!

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
