Celebrating Reno's Infinite Potential For Absurdity

There's been a lot of talk about the free rooms and everyone wants to know when they'll be given away. I'm going to try and work some magic with the El Cortez soon, hopefully this week. *cross fingers*. Chad has now 3 rooms to toss out from the TownHouse and the tension is mounting and feathers are flying.

There's also discussion happening on facebook, re: free rooms and who deserves them based on some sort of merit or incapacity.

This show was founded or rather, "confounded"... on the premise of "DIY". No establishment, no special treatment, dis-organiztion, etc. "Get a room, make a show". That's it. If there's one thing I've learned from this show, it's this:

"it's NOT going to be done 'your way', unless YOU MAKE it happen YOUR way!"

I suggest that we have the Jan. '09 "Give-away Gathering" on Thurs. Jan. 15th. To be held at one or both of the hotel/motels supporting the free rooms. This will give us some time to promote the Vegas show as well.

Comments, please???

You wouldn't want me to take the event and "make" it all happen "my way", now would you?

Speak up Nada Dada Motelers... YOUR show is approaching and your chariot is about to arrive!

Jan. 15th is too soon.. we don't need to rush it... we haven't even reallyyy started to promote the room give away. We need people to sign up for the give away first. Room will be packed. Shouldn't it be much later? A month before or sumthin?

Hmmm, not sure if the give-away should be a month before the show, that doesn't give the free room winners enough time to plan a show.

Jan might be too early, true. What does everyone else think? I'm going to go work on some art.

I think we should wait until after the Vegas show. We still need more info out to get more participants.

We at least need to get it into the Sierra Arts and we need to give the rooms to people who are already commited, (or should be)

I concur, XNGH.

Has anyone hit up the Sierra Arts? If not, we can shoot Chad's press release to them.

Yes, commitments are good at this stage in the event. Rooms go fast! Rumor has it that the Trocadero Room is going to scream like never before this year! :) I hope some of those cock-fighters from last year show up again. :)

Since we're not having the give-away bash yet (phew... breath of air, lots of art to finish in a little amount of time), does that mean we get to have our next meeting at the dump again? Or maybe this time we go rollerskating on the slides at Wild Waters at 4am?

... OK, back to the drawing table... getting closer to being finished! Viva Las Reno!

It's a good idea to know if you'll have a free room soon so you'll know how to budget for later if you have to pay for one. I like the idea of doing it in January. After all what else is happening on Jan. 15th?
Good luck to all,
Cindy

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
