Celebrating Reno's Infinite Potential For Absurdity

As previously posted, there are two free rooms (That's right, free!!) at the TownHouse Motorlodge up for grabs for NadaDada Motel, June 18-21, 2009.

Here's how to get in on the action:

1) You must be a member of NadaDadaDingDong.com. If you aren't already a member, go to the right side of the screen and click on "Sign Up".

2) You may only enter one of the contests. You can either compete for Room #1 or Room #2, not both of them. This is to eliminate the remote possibility of an artist winning both rooms.

Okay, here we go!

Room #1) Will be juried by the owner, manager, maids, gardeners, etc. from the TownHouse. This room is open to artists from anywhere. They are to submit images of their work or room concept to be considered for selection. They do not have to be present to win. Directions on when, where, and how to submit images/concepts will be posted later.

Room #2) Will be allotted by a random drawing. The room is also open to anyone, but they must be present to win.

Present? Yep, present. The plan is to have a big party at the Trocadero (or somewhere else), and artists who want to be in the running for Room #2 will put their names into a hat or tumbler thingy for the random drawing. They must register for the contest at the party.

Images from the artists vying for Room #1 will be hung on the walls, without names (so as not to influence the decision), for the TownHouse jury to review. When they have made their selection, they will privately tell the M.C. of the party their choice.

At the end of the evening, the M.C. will go onstage and announce the winner of Room #1. Then in a dramatic climax, the M.C. will reach into the hat or tumbler thingy and draw out the name of the winner for Room #2. If that person is not present, another name will be drawn.

We will then all scream and cheer! And perhaps pull the winner(s) up onstage to be adored, although more likely, embarrassed beyond belief.

That’s the plan, voted on by Three Dings and a Dong.

I want to enter, of course. But, I can't be there for the second room, so I guess I have to submit for the first room? I will be traveling for weeks on end... when do you need images by, or will a web site or name be enough?

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
