The Name Game

Anyway, on to another sidetrack.. last night, watched a movie where the kids were singing this name game song. Well at the end of the movie I saw song credits for "The Name Game". Somebody wrote that? hmmmph, OK.

Anyway, over the past couple of years that we've been working on this show, there has been a lot of talk about the name(s) of this event. Spirits/tempers were raised and flames started shooting out our asses over it!

Though Dada Motel was a smashingly cool name, dadamotel.com was not available. What if it had been? What if the subsequently entitled Nada Motel had been a flop due to confusion over the new name? Does the name matter? Does the name not matter?

Why not change the name each year? Who does that? Why do that, you ask? Why not?
Reno's the brand -and reno's fruckin' weird so what the hell.

Bitch slap us all into blogging instead of all the _ada Motel emails. Much better it's hard going back and forth. How about Creata Motel.... We need a list of all of these great ideas and vote on them on Thursday. It is an election year, isn't it?

Thursday's too early. I think there's no reason to actually decide right now. And as far as a list, I'm not copying all those emails into this discussion myself. The authors can do that for me, and there's our list.
I'm sticking to the initial cries about the planning of this event that decisions should not be made behind closed doors. Linux anyone? Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, this is an open-source event, but I'm sure lively talk on the subject will happen on Thursday too.

The idea of changing the name each year, while consistent with the principles of the Dada Motel, is too clever by half. If you want to be inclusive and actually bring people to the event you have to create your identity and make it easy for people to recognize who and what you are. Doing whatever you want with your art is more fun with an audience.
