Celebrating Reno's Infinite Potential For Absurdity

This is early maybe, it was touched on briefly at the meeting, but we've got to decide some jobs that need to be assigned to people. I wanna start thinking here about what needs to be done.
We'll be doing postcards for our shows again individually, maybe an overall flyer–we should really do one this year AND THEN there will be a job for someone to pass out flyers. We had a few people do it last year, last minute.

I'm going to keep updating this discussion with a list of jobs:

•Trocadero needs a entertainment director or an art show to happen there. (last year Tova totally took the reins, the first year it was Faith)
•TownHouse has a filled-in pool that we've already been invited to do something there.
(the space was wasted and the TH needs more of a draw)
•MORE ARTISTS to fill rooms, we always need those and this year we've got a great incentive, see other post "Want a Free Room?"
•MORE HYPE nationally fur sure, and with blogs it's easy And who Likes getting press addresses? There's a job–would someone do that for me, we can work together.. I work on the press release. contact me.
•Arts Bloggers to help fill this site with content and also get out there on the blogosphere finding artists that have an interest. Send them here.
•Just put up your best images and vids & talk here. Lets get arty, lets get noticed!

Hey, I'm in- let me do some press stuff. As dorky as it sounds, alumni newsletters are a great way to get press nationally.
ETA: I can help move press forward, but I don't want to a. step on toes, b. redo wagon wheels that have already been invented.
Also, I teach on Thursdays nights through the middle of December (next semester should be better). So can help virtually until then.
Sorg, do you have a press release? Have you contact national artsy-fartsy mags already (ya know they gots the 4 month deadline and all that)....

Naomi, thats great to hear... no PR yet for the motel show, no.. glad you brought it up. There's one you'll see on this site for the Vegas museum exhibition in Vegas but not one for the Reno motel event yet... I'll get to work on that.
We're having a meeting this Thur. so we'll talk with whoever is there then about it a bit. Go check out that other PR though, I'm pretty proud of it. Ann Tracy (from Sac.) helped with it.
Nat'l art mags, no, didn't. You have a list already? That would be awwweessommme!

I'm hoping you already have some lists that you'd be able to shoot it off to.. let's keep in touch.

Hi Naomi and Chad... I've got some email addresses for national mags.... will email them to Chad off list.... and Naomi... great idea about trying to get info into alumni newsletters... also another avenue is if any of the artists work for any kind of large company that produces a company newsletter....

Won't be able to get back on this until next week though.... I've put my hat on as a film actor and am shooting an "indie" short this coming weekend... so I gotta learn my lines or my ass is grass....
be back here next week....

Chad, save me some cards and flyers and I'll mail them out and hand them around during my travels. If the Mudpeople really do show up, we can make the pool part of the walk-about.

I just sent out the 'Greetings From Nada Motel' press release for the Vegas show and info about our Reno gig to NYC today. Can't hurt. :) Inviting some artists friends to come to see us in Vegas. Also thinking about having my show in a motel room in NY next year.

No, I'm NOT kidding.

The only problem I can see is, I don't think they have motels in New York, just hotels.

and I guess my army HERE IN RENO just keeps evolving. We actually have something going here that's news worthy... BECAUSE WE'RE IN RENO.

We'll miss ya.

That's good though- lots and lots of opportunities in Reno!
Here's a link to the art event from whencet I hail (DC area)- it's Artomatic, in it's tenth year. Some interesting press about it, ideas about promotion, evolution, etc.

I'll get to work on appropriate news outlets for NADADADAYADAYADA..

Just read "Who Moved My Cheese" last night while I soaked in the tub. Ever read it? Without knowing who you are, I can't tell you weather you'll get anything out of it–some don't. BUT, it's the best selling book ever according to Amazon.

So now, as far as divvying up jobs, it's on my mind... who's a Sniff, Scurry, Hem or Haw?

What're you the best at? As the reluctant leader of this formerly anarchistic group, I guess my job is to inspire people to want to pitch in. "I'll help" doesn't do it. Do what? What can you do? Better yet, how would your help be special?

Do you believe in this project? Do you, yourself plan on reaping some benefits from helping? If not, shoo–go away.

We need some mighty words right now to pull people back in and give big compliments to what this thing is.

Best thing I heard so far was something someone told Elaine Parks "This is better than Burning Man!" Whoever said that just wasn't smokin' the right shit on the playa, but anyway. pitch in here–ON THIS WEBSITE.

We need content, constantly to keep new members poking in. Ask questions, show your tits.

Notes

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
